Boat Making Day

Ahoy there matey!

We all arrived at school today as pirates and are very excited to make our boats with the parents this afternoon. We have made our designs and collected materials all that is left to do is make them. We are set for the challenge and can't wait to get started. Come and have a look at our boats in the hall and the pictures will be on here shortly.

Good Luck Pirates, may your art skills be with you!

The Super Sixties

Children from all over the school had their artwork displayed over the bank holiday weekend as part of St Gregory's Britain through the decades Diamond Jubilee celebrations. Our school worked on aspects of the 1960s to create a stunning display, while other schools looked at different decades. Perhaps some of those schools could post links to their website or blog pages on here so we can share what we got up to.

Tag TournamentTriumph

Well done to our Tag Rugby team for their performance at Wensleydale Rugby Club in the Wensleydale cluster tag rugby festival on Tuesday 8th May. Every member of the squad scored at least one try as the team overcame four other local schools to top their pool group. This means they will now compete in the Partnership finals on Tuesday 29th May for a place at this year’s Youth Games. Congratulations and good luck!

This news also means that Friday’s tag rugby club will be running for an extra three weeks to help the squad prepare. Thank you to Mr Estensen and Mr Taylor for coaching the players to this success.

Bedale Rocks!

Mrs Latta organised and led the band for a fantastic concert to raise money for the school and for Mettupalayam. The idea was simple: turn up, choose a song, pay to have it played by the band and rock out!

Thank you to everyone who came, and to Sainsbury's for supporting the event.

Animation Club

Over the last half term, a group of children began creating their own animations on a Monday after school. They started with clay models and worked on their own animations. Unfortunately, the software we had let us down and this proved harder than we had thought. But, learning from our mistakes, we had another go with Lego this time and we're getting better!

Enjoy our short, but sweet, animations. The club will be running again later in the year, hopefully with some updated equipment and even better results.

North Yorkshire Cross Country

After their success at the Cattrick cross country festival last week, our year six boys’ team and our winner of the year four girls’ race were invited back to the North Yorkshire cross country event. Well done to Lily who came 16th in the year four girls race!  The year six boys came first place in the team event! Congratulations!

Bedale's Got Talent 2012!

If you missed Bedale's Got Talent on Wednesday 28th March then you missed some incredible performances by the children of Bedale Primary School!  The event was a huge success showcasing amazing acts from singing and dancing to basketball skills.  The school council worked extremely hard to audition and then had tough decisions to select the performers. All of the children were brave and performed like true professionals.  Well done, we are very proud of you all!

A big thank you to everyone who made the event such a success especially the FSG and staff at Bedale High School.

Bedale's Marvellous Music

Over the last week we've had several magical musical experiences. Emily from Sing Up came in to teach the year 3 and 4 boys some songs, we held our very own Bedale's Got Talent competition and had some special visitors from Live Music Now as well. That's all on top of our Easter service and Mrs Latta's usual clubs! Phew!

Chris and Amy from Live Music Now came into school to perform some traditional folk music and dances. These amazing musicians played violin and accordion to entertain during two performances for KS2 then FS&KS1. They invited children to join with them to play percussion and try new dance steps. The whole school was able to enjoy a fantastic concert at only a small cost to the school, due to the generosity of sponsors supporting the Live Music Now organisation.

Catterick Cross Country festival

Yesterday afternoon a group of children from years three up to year six took part in the Catterick cross country festival. This was a huge event attended by schools from around the area. There were races for each year group and each year group was split into a girls' race and a boys' race. The year three and four children had to run 1200m and the year five and six children 1500m. All of the children worked very hard and gave fantastic encouragement to each other during the races. Well done to all of the children who took part, especially those who have been invited back next week to compete in the next round!
